HORSEBACK RIDING

Winthrop Washington is rich with a long history of horse riding and horsemanship, providing a diversity of options for visitors wishing to spend some time in the saddle.

For visitors just wanting to get a taste of horseback riding, local outfitters offer half-day trail rides, chuckwagon breakfast outings, or even multi-day pack trips into remote wildness settings.

There are peaceful, easy-to-access valley-bottom rides or more rugged and striking terrain at the higher elevations.  The Methow Backcountry Horseman’s Association riding guide is a good resource for newcomers looking for the perfect outing with their own horse.

During the 49’er Days Weekend in May, enjoy the western flair and a show of horsemanship at the 49ers Parade. This event offers spectators more horses than any other parade in Washington State!

Wild horses on a flowery hillside

Take it to the next level by joining Ride To Rendezvous. A four-day drive leading up to the parade in town. Washington Outfitters and Guides Association proves a great experience! You can bring your own horse or wagon, or rent from the association. Nightly campfire entertainment, horse hay, as well as fantastic food cooked in dutch ovens, starting with dinner on Monday evening, three meals a day ending with breakfast & lunch on Friday, 12 meals total. The cost ranges from $400-$600
