February 13-14, 2021
The Winthrop Snowshoe Softball tournament is a popular annual winter event. It is sponsored by the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce and Three Fingered Jack’s Saloon. Now in its third decade, this tournament is held every February on the three-day President’s Day weekend.
Participants and spectators must comply with state outdoor recreation COVID-19 regulations, and wear masks at all times.
On President’s Day Weekend, up to eight local co-ed snowshoe softball teams converge on Winthrop’s ball field. The weekend is full of good sport, great fun and an out of the ordinary event – one which is enjoyed by participants and spectators alike.
As the name implies, snowshoe softball is an actual softball tournament played in the snow. The participants are strapped into snowshoes. The teams must be comprised of equal numbers of men and women. To enable the participants and the spectators to keep track of the action, all of the balls are florescent yellow.
The softballs are not the only things that are colorful. Some teams don costumes in addition to their snowshoes, making Winthrop Snowshoe Softball much, much more than just another softball competition. This is downright hilarious and entertaining for all ages!”
